What have you learnt about technology from the process of constructing this product?
For this question we have done a screen casted video to show a flavour of the different things we have done. We have used other websites and forms of technology but we did not include them in our website. The video mainly focuses on the the website and the editing for those were the key areas that we learnt things from.
All of the techniques that are used in this video is stuff that we have learnt to use in our journey of making an opening title sequence.
The first section of the video is all about the website and the things that we found out that we could/have to do on it.
The first thing that we found out on the website is the setting up of the pages. We needed to know how each page could be constructed and that we could use a different type of page for our blog. This was a necessity to learn, because we needed the other pages to write on. The more pages we could put on meant the more that we could expand on a subject.
Putting on buttons were important for they were another way of navigating around the site. They were a direct way of getting to a part of the site that was linked with the page that you were on at the time being. The buttons did not just take you somewhere on our site. We could link up hyperlinks to other sites and the visitor could get on to other sites that were linked to the topic that the page was talking about.
Images were needed on every page. They were just usually there for decoration, but sometimes, like you will see later on in the video, the images can also be used as buttons to other sites. We have used this technique on the pages explaining the distribution and production companies, because then the visitor can then go directly to the website of the thing that the page was talking about.
Every time we did something on the website we needed to blog about it. This means that people who visited the website can see who did what recently. We can add things in our blog, just like any other page. For example we can add images and videos.
Videos needed to be uploaded to youtube before we could get them onto the website. During the course of researching and planning our opening title sequence, making and uploading videos were important. This is because every time we made a video, our editing skills were getting better.
The next section of the video is about some of the other websites that we have used to make this video.
Bubbl.us was a good site in which we could make mind maps on. the controls of the site were very easy once you knew what you were doing. Once you had finished a bubble, then you could change it colour, size or font.
Straw Poll was another easy site in which we could make polls on it. The polls could then be imported on to the website, then the audience can fill it out and see the results of the poll so far. This means that the audience can do more physical things on the website.
Prezi is a website in which you can make a presentation which is like a powerpoint, but it is a lot more interesting. We have used this to deal with little topics to do with a larger topic.
Youtube has been a major website in which we have needed to conquer the handling of. Every time we make a video we have needed to upload it to this website. We have learned a few things that we can do with our uploaded videos. The first thing is that we can add more tags to the video, which means that the video will come up a lot more of the suggestions that someone types into youtube. The second thing is that we have learnt how to add annotations to the videos that we upload.
The last section is the most important section. It is what we have learnt from Final Cut Pro, the editing programme we used for all of our videos.
Titles on videos are useful. Like on the video above we have used titles to show what type of technology is being used. We needed titles in our opening title sequence, because of the titles at the start. There was the title of the product, PROJECT GRIMDARK, and also who did what job.
Importing media was super important. If we didn't import media, we could not have got any of our clips on to the computer, on to youtube or on to the editing programme.
The most easiest of things on the programme is to add the clips on to the timeline. The next easiest of thing is to cut or lengthen the clips. Sometimes we only need part of a clip, or we only need to take of the start or end of a clip.
Transitions between clips mean that the clips can run smoothly, without any interruption. Otherwise the video may have the appearance of lagging when it is not.
Transforming means that we got clips and made them bigger. We cropped off the edges and only the useful thing were left in the frame.
The ken burns was used on the last technique. This means that you can zoom in to the shot with smoothness. If you did that when filming, there was a huge chance of it going wrong.
In conclusion as a group we have learnt lots of techniques in the production of making our opening title sequence. All of the technology we have used can be used again, and without the technology we used, we would not have got our opening title sequence. We have used some more technology that was not in this video, but that was some easy things that were not necessarily needed.
